Mission

The Public Information Office is a conduit for the most up-to-date information provided to the public concerning all matters relating to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

On average, the Public Information Office receives just over one hundred media related calls and thirty-four citizen requests for information weekly. In response to media inquiries, information is researched and disseminated through print, television and radio interviews, and news releases. Additionally, the Public Information Office often responds to citizen requests for information. Pro-active coverage of major events, arrests, and unusual situations occurring within the scope of law enforcement work are provided as events unfold. The Public Information Office also coordinates media coverage in efforts to assist other divisions in locating fugitives, ascertaining information pertinent to criminal investigations, and finding missing persons.

In addition, the Public Information Office is responsible for producing the Crime Stoppers funded "North Central Florida's Most Wanted." Furthermore, the Office maintains the news/media and crime prevention portions of the ACSO website, and produces educational literature and presents crime prevention programs.

Hours of Operation

The Public Information Office staff strives to be responsive and professional, acting in compliance with Florida Public Record laws, and in the best interest of the agency, the news media, and the people of Alachua County. Routine requests are handled as expeditiously as possible during normal working hours. After hour requests, on weekends, or during observed holidays, can be fulfilled by speaking with the on-duty shift commander. Please remember, a Public Information Officer (PIO) is always on call for emergencies, significant breaking news events, or matters of importance. The below listed information is to be used as a guide for the media in their acquisition of information from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office

Normal working hours for the Public Information Office are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to contact the Public Information Office can do so by dialing the secretary at (352) 367-4050. The Alachua County Sheriff's Office lead PIO, Lt. Stephen Maynard, can be reached during normal business hours at (352) 367-4041. After-hours and on weekends or holidays, please contact a Watch Commander at (352) 955-1818.

After Hours or Emergency Contact

Anyone needing information after 5:30 p.m., on a weekend, or during an observed holiday can call the shift commander at (352) 955-1818. This number will connect you to our Communications Operations Bureau. Please ask the communications operator to have the shift commander return your call.

With breaking news stories, a PIO will be notified by the shift commander and will be asked to handle all media requests. Please do not contact the shift commander with requests during these incidents, rather contact the Communications Operations Bureau at (352) 955-1818 and have the on-duty PIO return your call.

Media Log

The media log is generated by the ACSO Records Bureau located at 2621 SE Hawthorne Road. The log is produced twice a day: after 12:00 a.m. and after 12:00 p.m. The log contains a running history of all calls handled by the ACSO and includes the following information:

If you need a copy of a report/incident, provide the records technician the case report/incident number and they will provide you with a copy of the following:

  • Nature of call
  • Location of the call (Excluding sexual and child abuse cases)
  • Dispatched and arrival times
  • Disposition, including case report number

If the report/incident is not of a criminal nature, such as a disturbance, civil, loud noise, or other, the entire report will be available for release. If the report/incident is of a criminal nature and constitutes an active investigation, according to Florida Statute 119.07, only upon the completion of the investigation will the report be considered available for release.

Booking Log

The booking log is generated by the records staff at the ACSO Department of the Jail, located at 3333 NE 39 Avenue. The log is posted in the DOJ lobby usually around 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The log is a listing of anyone who has been brought into the DOJ for booking or processing for the Juvenile Assessment Center. The log will contain the following:

In the case of a juvenile being booked or processed by the DOJ, an entry of “Confidential Juvenile” will be stamped in the name section of the log. This will also be true for people who meet the Marchman criteria and are housed in the DOJ. “Confidential Marchman” will be stamped in the name section of the log.

Many times a Capias or Warrant is documented on the log. This does not constitute an on-view arrest. Look at the Capias or Warrant number. Provide this number to the record’s staff to determine who the initiating agency was and when the document was issued.

If you wish to receive a copy of the arrest paperwork or photograph of the person, copy the jail number and name down and provide it to the lobby staff. When time permits, a record’s technician will process your request and provide you with the information. Please provide all of the needed information along with your phone number to the records staff. They can be reached at (352) 491-4444. Please understand that due to their workload, you may experience a delay.

Payment must be made at time of request.
